Wagstaff Applied Technologies specializes in custom designing, building, and testing machines for remote handling of nuclear materials. Our design team has experience with numerous remote handling techniques, from simple conveyors to completely automated robotic systems, and can custom tailor a solution to any unique problem.
We recently completed the Bogies project for Bechtel National, Inc. at the Waste Treatment Plant in Hanford Washington. That project involved moving waste within the facility on motorized carts.
We also provided the Waste Treatment plant with a crane deployed tool that press fits stainless steel lids onto Low Activity Waste canisters. The lidding machine uses a vacuum grabber to hold a lid, and then it is deployed by a crane on the top of a filled LAW Container. The machine positions itself and locks onto a flange on the container. The lidding machine then uses a servo motor to generate 10,000 lbs. to press fit a lid onto the container.
