Wagstaff Applied Technologies was contracted AREVA Federal Services to fabricate and test Fresh Fuel Shipping Containers to transport highly enriched reactor fuel for the Advanced Test Reactor at the Idaho National Lab.
The containers are made from thin walled stainless steel with machined ends and a machined closure. The thin walled construction required developing a weld procedure that minimized distortion. The machined closures where welded to the thin walled shell. The closure had tight tolerances.
