Wagstaff Applied Technologies was contracted by Oak Ridge National Lab to design, fabricate, test, and deliver a custom Plutonium 238 Packaging glovebox system.

Wagstaff AT’s Pu-238 Packaging glovebox system receives the Neptunium-237 that has been irradiated in ORNL’s HFIR reactor, which turns some of the Neptunium-237 into Pu-238, and packages it into a multi layered shipping container and then helium leak tests that container. The container of Neptunium-237/Pu-238 is then shipped to Los Alamos National Lab where the newly created Pu-238 is extracted from the Neptunium-237.
